Don't let social media and our short attention spans fool you. Blogging is still very alive and can be profitable for your business.
But just writing and publishing posts on the Internet won't make your blog successful. 😬
So here are six things to help your blog gain readers, grow an audience, and ultimately motivate them to take a specific action.
1. Your blog should offer helpful content tailored to your audience’s needs.
A successful blog uses search engine optimization, a.k.a. SEO, to help make its pages and content more relevant and visible in Google search results. 🔥
This can be done by including keyword phrases within your posts, as well as optimizing the blog titles and meta descriptions.

When writing a blog post, a good way to start each draft is with a list of 10 keywords or phrases that your readers would likely type in the search bar. From there, you can write and create content around that.

To further boost your SEO, link each blog post to another blog post. Essentially, the idea is that this may increase the chances of your reader sticking around to read more. ⏳
Pro tip: use the social listening tool AnswerThePublic to discover what people are searching for on Google then create blogs based on the results. Like we did for this social media growth blog.
2. Your blog has a clear target audience.
The best blogs are written for a specific audience and cater to their needs. Find out what topics interest your readers and create blog posts around those subjects. 💡
If your niche is cruelty-free makeup for melanated skin, then it wouldn't make sense to post about how to find the right wine for a dinner party. The more relevant your content is to your audience the more likely they will look to your blog for answers or when making a buying decision.
3. Your blog has a strong voice and personality.
It's no surprise blogs written with a strong personality and a distinct voice tend to be more popular than ones that sound like robots wrote them. Your blog is an extension of who you are/your brand

is and what interests you, so unless you're R2-D2, make sure to sprinkle some ✨ you ✨ in all of your posts.
Google measures the time spent on your blog, which helps with its ranking:
Start with an attention-grabbing title/headline and lede,
Follow that with an engaging body full of informative and/or entertaining copy (sprinkle some ✨ you ✨ right here)
Include fun and appropriate visuals, like GIFs, memes, emojis, videos, etc.
Finish strong with a clear call to action (CTA)
4. Your blog provides value to readers.
This is the most important thing, but it can be difficult to evaluate. Does your blog provide value to its readers?

If you don't know, ask them! It's important to give people something they can use, whether it's practical advice, actionable tips, or just a good laugh.
Remember that each blog post you write can make a lasting impression that can convert readers to leads and buyers. 💰
5. Your blog is modern.
Your blog should be visually attractive, easy to search and navigate, and mobile-friendly. And if your SEO is effective, your blog may bring the highest website traffic. 📈
Because first impressions are critical, you’ll want your blog to come across as credible and current, not sketchy and outdated. This means investing time and money into things like website design, page load time, user experience, overall content, etc. These factors could help enhance your brand reputation and make it easier for readers to grow their trust in you.
6. Your blog is monetized.
Have you ever heard of monetizing a blog? It's been around for quite some time and has helped many people/brands earn an income from their blogs. 🤑
Monetizing your blog means making money from it. There are many ways to do this, but the most common way is through advertising. You can sell advertising space on your website

(e.g. Google AdSense), build an email list to leverage email marketing, or use affiliate marketing to make money from recommending products and services to your readers. Selling digital products or courses and marketing them through your blog can also boost its profitability.
Pro tip: diversify your blog monetization strategy by incorporating several monetization methods. A digital product can be promoted via SEO-optimized blog articles, for example. Those blog articles can then be sent to your email subscribers. Two birds, one stone. 🙌🏾
